Termites
Eastern Subterranean Termites
Termites are a social insect that lives in large colonies. King and Queen termites have
been known to live as long as 25 years. Swarming can occur after the colony reaches a
certain size (After 2-3 years or 4-6 years, researchers tend to disagree over this.)
When conditions are favorable, usually on warm or humid days, the colony
can send out immature kings/queens and attempt to found a new colony. Major signs of
termite presence can include "pencil-size" mud tubes constructed over the surface of
foundation walls, mud protruding from cracks between boards and beams, and a distinctly
hollow sound from infested wood and/or extreme softness when probed with a knife.
Termites are not a do-it-yourself problem. Termites will eat the wood portions of a
house, in some cases, completely ruining the structural strength of a house. If you
suspect infestation or just want to know for you own peace of mind, please call
